How Livat’s Custom IP-Themed Visual Merchandising Drives Engagement?

Serving as the core visual centerpiece for Livat’s 11th-anniversary celebration, this “Smiley Face” IP-themed decoration is a textbook example of successful custom shopping mall IP visual merchandising. The project encompasses over a dozen installations across three major categories: main atrium sculptures, high-altitude suspended inflatables, and multi-floor interactive photo spots. From deepened factory design to on-site delivery, the entire process was driven by a standardized factory control system. By overcoming implementation challenges across four key dimensions—material craftsmanship, structural safety, visual fidelity, and efficient delivery—the project successfully achieved both creative design and commercial value.

1. Material Selection & Structural Safety: Robust Solutions for Multiple Scenarios

This commercial display project includes multi-tiered floor sculptures, suspended giant inflatables in the atrium, and up-close interactive photo spots. These structures must withstand weight loads, high-altitude anti-sway requirements, and high-frequency touch wear, all while strictly adhering to mandatory indoor fire retardant and non-toxic environmental standards. For the main floor sculptures, the team used unsaturated polyester fiberglass (FRP) with a strictly controlled resin content of over 65% as the primary exterior material. Inside, a hot-dip galvanized angle steel framework was welded for load-bearing support, featuring a 1.5x safety redundancy based on architectural load codes. Finished with a premium three-layer automotive baking paint process, the sculptures offer exceptional structural stability, wear resistance, and color saturation, easily enduring daily leaning and frequent physical interaction from the crowd.

For the giant suspended smiley inflatables, high-strength PVC mesh fabric was selected to significantly reduce weight while maintaining visual fullness. We paired this with custom 304 stainless steel hanging rigging and a multi-point weight-distribution structure to evenly transfer the load to the building’s structural beams, eliminating single-point load risks. Additionally, the curved sculptures required precise reproduction of facial expressions and proportions, which easily warp with standard techniques. To solve this, the project team used the brand’s official Pantone color codes as the absolute baseline. Individual color samples were created and tested for each material. We repeatedly calibrated colors under two typical lighting conditions: natural indoor mall light and warm downlighting. By fine-tuning paint formulas and printing ink parameters, we achieved a highly consistent visual effect across all scenes.

To accurately capture the details of the curved smiley faces, we combined CNC carving with meticulous manual finishing, controlling 3D modeling deviations to within 2mm. This ensured that core IP elements—like the wide grins and eye lines—did not distort or twist on curved surfaces, fully preserving the IP’s adorable charm and brand recognition. Ultimately, the design reproduction rate for the entire installation exceeded 95%.

3. Full Factory Pre-Assembly: A Dual Guarantee of Efficiency and Precision

Shopping mall anniversary projects operate on rigid timelines. The mall only allowed on-site construction during non-operating night hours, providing less than 6 hours of effective work time per day. With dozens of large and small components, assembling and testing everything on-site would have jeopardized both the schedule and the overall quality.

Relying on a mature commercial visual merchandising factory delivery system, the team adopted a “1:1 factory pre-assembly + modular breakdown” strategy. All components were fully assembled and tested in the factory workshop. 4. On-Site Installation & Finishing Details: “Invisible” Craftsmanship Elevates Overall Quality

The mall’s atrium features a complex spatial layout with numerous architectural boundaries, such as escalators, pillars, and floor joints, making it difficult to seamlessly integrate the decorations with the building. Simultaneously, multi-point construction requires excellent on-site management to balance workflow, protect finished products, and meet the mall’s strict property management regulations.

To handle this, the team deployed a zoned, parallel-work approach. Dedicated construction crews were assigned to the main atrium sculpture area, the suspended installation area, and the side hall interactive spots, moving efficiently along preset routes to avoid cross-interference. For junctions between the installations and the floors or walls, we used color-matched edge trims and neutral anti-mold silicone sealants. All fixing screws and splicing gaps were carefully hidden, leaving no exposed hardware and ensuring perfect visual continuity.

For the transition between floor stickers and tiles, a curved-edge cutting technique with special edge-sealing was applied to prevent peeling or curling from heavy foot traffic. Every step of the construction strictly complied with the mall’s property management standards. Post-installation cleaning and product protection were completed concurrently, ensuring a flawless visual presentation when the mall opened to the public.
