As commercial real estate increasingly prioritizes “emotional value” and “immersive experiences,” how do we transform dopamine-colored 2D designs into tangible, must-visit offline destinations? Recently, the highly anticipated “Daydream Island” themed street made its stunning debut. As the behind-the-scenes production and execution team for MixC Mall’s large-scale custom romantic street installation, we are taking a deep dive into the project’s core craftsmanship, structural safety, and execution details from the perspective of the source manufacturer.For this outdoor immersive themed street visual merchandising (VM) project, our factory team overcame four core challenges during the production process:
1. Visual Fidelity and Color Calibration: Preventing Outdoor “Color Fade”
The “Daydream Island” project heavily utilized high-saturation, dopamine-inducing color palettes (such as the bright red of the giant apple and the creamy yellow and retro pink of the main street). Large outdoor interactive installations are highly prone to color discrepancies under natural sunlight and tend to fade after prolonged UV exposure, leading to an awkward mismatch between the original design and the final product.To achieve 100% visual fidelity, our factory strictly matched international Pantone color codes during the color-mixing phase and conducted multiple outdoor simulated sunlight tests. The surface coating entirely utilized an automotive-grade outdoor baking paint process, finished with an anti-UV (ultraviolet) high-gloss clear coat. This not only gave the giant apple and donut sculptures a premium, textured sheen but also ensured that the commercial street’s VM photo spots remained as vibrant as day one throughout the months-long exhibition.
2. Craftsmanship and Seamless Finishing: Flawless Polishing for Macro Lenses
A closer look reveals that the street features numerous custom-shaped structures, such as a giant octagonal star arch with intricate patterns, perfectly rounded ice cream donuts, and uniquely designed pop-up store facades. If custom fiberglass (FRP) sculptures are not seamlessly joined, the flaws at the seams will be glaringly obvious when visitors take close-up photos.The team used high-density EPS foam for 1:1 precision CNC carving and molding, followed by multi-layer laminating with premium fiberglass (FRP) to enhance structural toughness. In the highly demanding detail-finishing phase, our craftsmen performed over five rounds of pure manual puttying and wet sanding. The edge bevels and relief textures of the giant star installation, in particular, achieved truly seamless joints and smooth transitions, capable of withstanding the scrutiny of any high-definition macro lens.
3. Structural Safety and On-Site Installation: Balancing Interactivity with Damage-Free Setup
As a high-traffic outdoor venue, the installations not only had to endure wind and sun but also meet the demands for deep visitor interaction (for instance, visitors safely sitting on the yellow spiral staircase for photos). Simultaneously, MixC Mall prohibited any destructive drilling or bolting on the plaza floor, posing a massive challenge to the wind resistance and stability of the outdoor commercial display setup.For the internal framework, our factory engineers conducted advance stress analysis, reinforcing all load-bearing nodes with fully welded, thickened hot-dip galvanized steel. To meet the zero-damage installation requirement, the team ingeniously concealed invisible, widened counterweight bases within the bottom planters and platform structures. This ensured that heavy installations (like the giant starburst main sculpture) met outdoor safety standards for wind resistance while perfectly preserving the shopping mall’s original paving.
4. Complete Pre-Assembly and Time Efficiency: The Magic of Racing Against the Clock
The normal operations of a top-tier shopping mall cannot be disrupted, meaning the on-site installation window for the construction team is typically limited to just a few short hours after closing.
