As the designated prop contractor for the “Flight” Hot Air Balloon Art Installation at MixC Mall, we managed the complete project lifecycle — from material sourcing and fabrication to on-site installation and final delivery.The balloon structure spans over 10 meters in diameter and floats at a height of 8 meters, engineered to achieve a lightweight, voluminous, and effortlessly buoyant visual effect. We utilized an inflatable membrane (air model) construction method, with the main body fabricated from high-strength double-sided coated PVC mesh fabric (tensile strength ≥ 3,500 N/5cm), finished with a custom single-color outer film layer.
All panels were joined using high-frequency welding and hot-air seaming techniques, achieving an airtight performance standard of ≤5% pressure drop over 24 hours. Compared to traditional rigid frameworks, this inflatable approach offers significant operational advantages — the entire structure folds flat for transport, inflates on-site in hours, and weighs only one-eighth of a conventional metal frame, while fully meeting the static load and wind resistance requirements of a commercial atrium environment.
Color accuracy was a top priority. Working from Pantone-specified brand colors provided by the design team, we conducted multiple rounds of material sampling and calibrated every batch using a spectrophotometer, holding print deviation to ΔE ≤ 1.5. The result is a precise, uniform color presentation that holds true under the mall’s natural lighting conditions. Before shipping, the balloon underwent full-scale factory pre-assembly: inflated to operating pressure at 1:1 scale and monitored continuously for 72 hours to track pressure retention and seam integrity. Every finishing detail — including heat-welded seams, reinforcement patches, and valve interfaces — was covered with a color-matched TPU sealant strip for a completely seamless, invisible finish.
