As a premier custom fabrication factory specializing in commercial art installations, this dragon-themed shopping mall installation highlighted the core challenges of executing large-scale Instagrammable art displays. Aesthetically, the giant curved dragon body consisted of thousands of scale-like units. Traditional pasting techniques often lead to fabric wrinkling, uneven light transmission, and harsh seams, while outdoor environments accelerate fading and aging. Structurally, the main dragon spanned over 20 meters with a peak height of 12 meters. Its irregular shape with multiple large overhangs posed a dual challenge: ensuring structural steel integrity and protecting the mall’s flooring. Visually, the internal lighting design faced varying cavity spaces. Conventional lighting creates uneven bright and dark spots, and the fabric’s diffuse reflection exaggerates color deviations, making it difficult to match the exact design color palette.
To address these pain points, our team—operating as a professional interactive art installation manufacturer—developed an end-to-end execution solution. For materials and craftsmanship, we selected a flame-retardant, high-transmittance satin fabric. By utilizing pre-shrinking techniques and an overlapping single-scale pasting method, combined with an anti-UV weather-resistant coating, we ensured both uniform light diffusion and outdoor durability. For structural safety, we engineered a dual-layer primary and secondary steel skeleton system. The base utilized a counterweight reinforcement strategy, ensuring absolute stability without damaging the existing mall flooring. For lighting effects, we deployed an LED diffuse-reflection strip matrix. After three rigorous color calibration rounds to perfectly match the design palette, the entire system achieved an IP65 waterproof rating, delivering even illumination and precise color rendering. For installation and delivery, we implemented a “factory pre-assembly + modular disassembly” model. By executing a streamlined nighttime workflow on-site, we completed the entire setup one day ahead of schedule, using invisible edge-sealing techniques to guarantee flawless visual integrity from every photo-op angle.
