As a professional custom art installation factory, we undertook the fabrication of the Year of the Dragon handmade woven art installation. Our scope included the handmade weaving process, giant prop customization, and on-site assembly, with the scene design provided independently by the client. The intricate, twisted form of the irregular coiled dragon bamboo weaving, combined with its heavy weight, posed significant risks of weave loosening and structural deformation. Additionally, the atrium presented limited space for high-altitude rigging. We successfully resolved these structural and installation challenges by reinforcing the piece with an internal load-bearing galvanized steel skeleton, implementing modular prefabrication with secure edge-locking for the woven sections, widening the base to distribute the load, and executing multi-point controlled hoisting.
In terms of aesthetic restoration and craftsmanship, we overcame the detailing challenges of merging a rigid metal skeleton with intricate floral arrangements. By engineering concealed wiring channels and integrating low-voltage LED lighting systems, we achieved a seamless fusion of light and floral elements. We also strictly matched the metal baking paint to Pantone color codes, ensuring the gold texture perfectly aligned with the overall spatial tone of the visual merchandising display. The project’s execution data speaks for itself: the entire manufacturing and pre-assembly process was completed in 67 days, utilizing 12 tons of structural steel and over 8,600 meters of golden woven wire. The installation covers a 240-square-meter core visual area in the atrium, boasting a maximum single span of 14 meters. Ultimately, the main structure passed its engineering inspection on the first attempt following 36 hours of phased, late-night on-site installation.
